Today was a treasured day of bird watching. I spotted a Pileated Woodpecker in the backyard. Time flew by but it felt like I was able to observe it close to a couple minutes. Today was also the closest I’ve been to one at a distance of approximately 10 ft. Being so close, I took the cell phone out and just as I pressed the button, it took off with not even a fleeting image captured. If I had been a second quicker, I would have had it.
I see more deer and pheasant in the back yard than I do these beautiful woodpeckers. This may have been a chance of a lifetime and I blew it.
